City Council Repeals Utility Tax (Effective March 1, 2016)

On December 8, 2015, the SeaTac City Council adopted an Ordinance #15-1021 that repeals SMC Chapter 3.90 relating to the utility tax that was established for 2015.  The effective date of this new ordinance is March 1, 2016.

Utility Tax Overview

On October 28, 2014 the SeaTac City Council passed Ordinance #14-1015 which establishes a 6% utility tax effective January 1, 2015. This tax applies to electric energy, natural or manufactured gas, solid waste (5%), surface water management, telephone, and cable television business within the City.
To adjust for those on limited incomes, the SeaTac City council also adopted a tax relief program. The annual rebate program applies to SeaTac residents who are on very low income and either 65 or older or disabled and unable to work. Additional details on this tax relief program are included in the adopted Ordinance noted above.

Utility Tax Relief Program Note

If you are low-income and over 65 years old or disabled, you may be eligible for the City’s Utility Tax Relief Program,  but in order to qualify you MUST provide your original utility bills to the City. So please remember to save your 2015 bills from all of your utilities. We want to be sure to get this assistance to all of you that may be eligible.
