2015 International Building Codes adoptedSince July 1st, 2016 construction in the City of SeaTac has been governed by the 2015 International Building, Residential, Fire, Mechanical, and other related construction and maintenance codes and the 2015 Uniform Plumbing Code as amended by the State of Washington and the City of SeaTac.
Agenda Bill #4320; Ordinance #16-1008 amending Chapter 13 of the SeaTac Municipal Code related to Buildings and Construction was adopted June 14, 2016 and became effective July 1, 2016.
Washington Cities Electrical CodeThe City of SeaTac adopted the Washington Cities Electrical Code.
The Washington Cities Electrical Code is the result of a joint effort between the MyBuildingPermit.com (MBP) EGov Alliance and the Washington Association of Building Officials (WABO). The Code was created to provide cities with a document that complies with RCW 19.28.010(2), which allows cities to enforce any Ordinance that is equal, higher or better than the State’s rules, but offers the following advantages.
• This Code omits all administrative and procedural State rules that cities cannot or choose not to adopt.
• This Code is written in the same format as the NEC to eliminate any conflict between a State rule and the NEC. This format will also allow the creation of insert pages that can be inserted into the applicable pages of the NEC. • This Code provides enforcement consistency among those cities that choose to adopt it. The City of SeaTac has provided a copy of The Washington Cities Electrical Code online for your information.

See how Building Code Officials are committed to your safety.
The 2015 International Codes went into effect on July 1st, 2015. Every permit submitted will have to be designed in reference to the appropriate codes. Please review the City of SeaTac Municipal Code Title 13 (Buildings and Construction) for all local amendments and code information. Furthermore, you will need to reference the amendments by the State Building Code Council located in the Washington Administrative Code. Please contact the Building Division at 206-973-4750 if you have any questions and or concerns regarding the codes.
Permits:The Building Division is responsible for processing and administering permits for all types of construction projects within the City. The following are some examples of permits administered by the Building Division; building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, sign, fire suppression, and fuel storage tanks.
Plan Review:Larger construction projects for permit submittals typically require a plan review by more than one City department. As part of the review process, the Building Division routes the permit submittal to the appropriate City department for review. After all City departments have completed their review, the Building Division will either issue the permit or send a comment letter to the applicant. The comment letter will explain what changes or corrections are necessary before the plans can be approved.
Inspections:After the plans are approved, the Building Division will inform the applicant that their permit is ready to be picked up. After the permit is issued, the applicant may begin construction of their project. There are specific inspections located on the back of each permit.
Requests for inspections are scheduled by phone through the City's Interactive Voice Response (IVR) Inspection Line which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Requests received prior to 10 PM will be scheduled for the next business day. The IVR Inspection Line can be reached by calling 206.973.4764. Brochures containing details on how to access the IVR and schedule inspections are provided with issued permits and are also available ad the City's Permit Counter. Information contained in the brochure can also be found on the City web site IVR Inspection Line Information Brochure.
As a general rule, no work shall be covered until approved by a City Inspector. Inspections must be requested 24 hours in advance by calling the City’s Inspection Line at 206.973.4764.
